Calcium sulfate is a corrective amendment or soil improver. This mineral provides sulfur in a form that can be easily adsorbed by plants - that is as a sulfate. It is also called AGRICULTURAL GYPSUM and when applied to soils levels the sodium/calcium ratio, especially for soils with salinity or sodicity problems. Likewise, it provides calcium without changing the pH.
The agricultural gypsum or calcium sulfate absorbs moisture almost instantly, expanding its volume - same as a bentonite - thus improving soil structure. Nevertheless, the amendment with this product is only recommended for soils with high organic content or accompanied by a nitrogen source.
